How to play
Every day Gamescry hides one video game. Your task is to name it in eight attempts or fewer. Start typing any game title, pick it from the list, and the orb reveals how your guess compares to the hidden game.
The six clues
- Year – the original release year. An arrow ↑ means the hidden game came out later than your guess, ↓ means earlier. Yellow means you are within three years.
- Developer – the lead studio that made the game. Green only when it is exactly the same studio.
- Country – where that studio is based. Yellow means a different country on the same continent.
- Genre – one or more genres such as RPG, Shooter or Strategy. Yellow means at least one genre is shared.
- View – the main camera perspective: first-person, third-person, top-down, side view or a fixed screen.
- Modes – single-player, co-op and PvP. Yellow means at least one mode is shared.
What the colors mean
Green is an exact match. Yellow means you are close. Grey means no match at all, which is useful too, because it rules out a whole group of games.
Daily quest and unlimited
The daily quest is the same for every player, always picks a well-known game and resets at midnight in your local time. Your streak grows each day you solve it. Unlimited mode gives you a fresh random game whenever you want to keep playing. Choose Popular games for a friendly round or All games for the full list of around 700 titles, including deep cuts.
Tips from the seers
- Open with a game that splits the field well: a popular title from around 2010 tells you a lot about the year and genre.
- Use grey clues to eliminate. A grey Country tile on a Japanese game means you can forget most console classics.
- Combine Developer and Country. Once the country turns green, think about which famous studios come from there.
- Watch the year arrows closely. Two guesses are usually enough to box the release year into a narrow window.
